DESCRIPTION:Music chose me. I vividly recall trying to sing like Louis Armstrong’s ‘Hello Dolly’ in our Brooklyn apartment. It came on the radio often. I knew I was small\, but when I researched what year this version was on the charts\, I was floored with the realization that I was two years old!” \nAnd so\, Joanna Connor’s musical odyssey began. The soundtrack of her childhood in her adopted hometown of Worcester\, Massachusetts was diverse and bounteous. The Blues was part of the lexicon. Joanna’s favorite record as a child was Taj Mahal’s “Take A Giant Step/ The Old Folks At Home”. \nSeeing Buddy Guy perform at a local university at the age of 10 left a paramount impression. Playing saxophone\, guitar and singing through her school years were her passions\, and eventually led to her performing professionally at age 17. \nBut her hunger to become a guitarist first and foremost and her desire to immerse herself in the Blues\, propelled her to move to Chicago in 1984. \n“It was my university. I went out every night of the week. Within a month I had my first gig with the legendary Johnny Littlejohn. A few weeks later I became a part of Dion Payton and the 43rd St Bluesband. We were the house band at the Checkerboard Lounge\, on the south side of Chicago\, then owned by Buddy Guy. That’s when my schooling kicked into overdrive. I played with Buddy\, Junior Wells\, Otis Rush\, Sammy Lawhorn\, Pinetop Perkins\, Hubert Sumlin\, Magic Slim\, Son Seals\, Lonnie Brooks\, Koko Taylor\, just to name a few. I was blessed.” \nJoanna went on to form her own band in 1988 with weekly appearances at the Kingston Mines in Chicago.  Her formidable guitar playing\, and distinctive soul-churning vocal ability caught the attention of Blind Pig Records\, who released her debut album “Believe It” in 1990. \nNational and International accolades in the press and radio media resulted into a decade of world tours\, a dozen recordings on Ruf Records\, MC Records and others\, a documentary on Germany’s WDR Television\, and a multitude of TV appearances and radio features. \nJoanna and band shared stages with Blues\, Rock and Jazz greats\, including Luther Allison\, BB King\, Screaming Jay Hawkins\, Robben Ford\, Danny Gatton\, Robert Cray\, Jimmy Page\, ZZ Top\, Joe Cocker\, Etta James\, and others. \nJoanna signed endorsement deals with Gibson Guitars\, Victoria Amps and Orange Amps. \nIn 2005\, she took a hiatus from touring to spend time at home raising her young daughter. Two 15 plus year residencies at the House of Blues and The Kingston Mines\, honed Joanna’s considerable guitar and vocal chops even further. \nWhile working continuously in Chicago\, a handful of videos of her incendiary slide guitar solos went viral creating quite a sensation and garnering attention from media and established musicians alike. Joe Bonamassa sought her out and offered to produce the kind of record he felt Joanna had always had in her and should deliver to the world.  4801 South Indiana is this record\, a blues record that delivers all the raw emotion\, passion\, and fire that made the Blues so compelling from its inception. Joe Bonamassa did not merely produce\, arrange\, and play on the record\, he enabled and inspired Joanna to pull from deep within her all of what her life in music had given her. SUMMARY:Eric Gales
DESCRIPTION:Growing up in a religious household\, his brothers Eugene and Manuel used to blast out Jimi Hendrix\, Cream\, Muddy Waters\, Blue Cheer\, Albert King\, John Lee Hooker\, King’s X and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Whilst their mother was at church and little Eric was aged just 4 \, he was soaking it all up and this is where he had his incredible grounding of blues\, hard rock and psychedelia. Naturally right handed\, Eric learned his distinctive left handed upside down playing from his older brothers Eugene\, his ‘mentor’ and Little Jimmy King\, who was later adopted as Albert King’s godson. \nHis talents caught the eye of Elektra Records\, who released his debut album The Eric Gales Band in 1991 when he was only 16 years old. The band was made up of Eric\, his older brother Eugene and drummer Huwbert Crawford. Picture of a Thousand Faces followed in 1993\, then Manuel Gales (aka Little Jimmy King) joined his two brothers for 1995s Left Hand Band as The Gales Brothers. Over the next few years he worked on varioud projects including performing as Lil E with Hip Hop collectives Prophet Posse and Triple 6 Mafia. \nIn 2001 he returned and released his first album on MCA records ‘That’s What I Am’ before moving to Mike Varney’s legendary shredder label\, Shrapnel Records for ‘Crystal Vision’ (2006) and ‘The Psychedelic Underground’ (2007). Four album on Blues Bureau Internation followed; ‘The Story of My Life’ (2008)\, ‘Layin’ Down The Blues’ (2009)\, ‘Relentless’ (2010) and ‘Transformation’ (2010). \nIn 2009 he spent in jail serving at the Shelby County Correction Center in 2009 for possession of drugs and a weapon. Talking about this he says; “While I was in there all the officers and guards were like\, ‘bro you know this isn’t where you’re supposed to be. When you get out of here\, go take the world by the horns and ride it all the way out.’ It took a couple of years after but\, I’m here.” Whilst he was incarcerated he was able to play shows\, for the Mayor\, the city and festivals\, his own version of Johnny Cash Walk the Line. \nThe all instrumental ‘Ghost Notes’ (Tone Center Records) came in 2013 along with ‘Pinnick Gales Pridgen’ (Magna Carta). The latter was a collaboration with dUg Pinnick (Kings X) and Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta\, Suicidal Tendencies) and the sequal come in 2014 with another fusion of psychedelic blues\, hard rock and progressive soul/R&B. He then released ‘Good for Sumthin’ in 2014 (Cleopatra Records)in addition to live album ‘A Night on the Sunset Strip’ (2016).
