About the Event

Roger “Hurricane” Wilson is a veteran American electric blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, and educator whose fiery, soulful style has left an indelible mark on the genre. Born Roger Wilson on July 27, 1953, in Newark, New Jersey, he began playing guitar at age nine in 1963, inspired by the British blues boom and later by American masters like Freddie King and Albert King. His nickname “Hurricane” emerged from his explosive playing and a childhood memory of Hurricane Donna devastating his hometown of Keansburg in 1960.
With over 50 years in the music world, Wilson has released more than 30 albums—including live recordings, acoustic projects, and collaborations—on labels like Hottrax and his own BlueStorm Records. He has shared stages with blues icons such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Charlie Musselwhite, and Les Paul, who famously said of him, “This guy plays some great blues.” A longtime Atlanta-area resident (now in Kennesaw, Georgia), Wilson taught guitar for decades, hosted a radio show, judged the International Blues Challenge, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame in 2015.
Even now, with recent releases like Alive in 2025 and Singles United, plus ongoing performances and his American Music Show, Roger “Hurricane” Wilson remains a dynamic force—proving the transformative power of the blues is far from over.
