The Band Waleska is a high-energy Southern rock outfit hailing from the small town of Waleska, Georgia, embodying the raw spirit of “Firewater Rock N Roll.” Formed in 2017 in a humble barn as a casual after-work jam session among lifelong friends Nolan Hawthorne, Caleb Gayton, Skylar Scales, and Hunter Lanning, the group soon evolved into a full-fledged six-piece band with the addition of drummer Drew Ferney and keyboardist Wiley Sims. Rooted in the traditions of Southern rock, country, and blues, their music blends gritty storytelling, infectious riffs, and soulful melodies that pay homage to legends like the Allman Brothers Band while carving out their own modern edge.
The band’s debut album, First Run (2023), recorded at iconic spots like Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and After Dark Studios, features barroom anthems such as “Drinking Again,” “Devil in My Head,” “Georgia Shine,” and “When She Leaves” (aka “Swamp Song”), all available on major streaming platforms. Affectionately known as the “Waleska Boys,” they’ve built a dedicated following through electrifying live shows at various local venues and regional festivals. Their sets often mix originals with powerhouse covers of classics like “Soulshine,” “War Pigs,” and “Call Me the Breeze,” showcasing their versatility and passion for the genre.
As of 2026, The Band Waleska continues to tour and perform across the Southeast, headlining local events and sharing stages with regional acts, all while promising to expand their reach and revive the Southern rock tradition for fans worldwide.
